Missouri House Speaker Steve Tilley Accepts $50,000 From Pro-Cloning Interests

In the past three years, Missouri House Speaker Steve Tilley has accepted more than $50,000 in contributions from the pro-cloning political action committee Supporters of Health Research & Treatments.

Now the Missouri House Leadership is promoting the MOSIRA bill, which is a scheme to fund science special interests, in the legislative special session.

Earlier this year, House leaders stripped from MOSIRA language that would have protected Missouri tax dollars from going to abortion, human cloning, and embryo-destructive experimentation. The latest version of MOSIRA now moving through the House does NOT have this protective language.

In other words, if the House leadership does not add such protective language, Missouri citizens may be forced to pay for unethical experiments on human embryos.

“Cloning interests have tried to buy influence with very large contributions to politicians. Why should Missouri taxpayers potentially have to pay for human cloning and embryo-destructive experimentation by institutions with billion-dollar endowments?” said Fred N. Sauer, President of Missouri Roundtable For Life. “Missouri elected officials should serve the citizens of Missouri and not special interests who write big checks.”
